This small olive oil company based in Catalonia has announced it will no longer be selling premium extra virgin olive oil in 2 litre or 5 litre plastic containers. While continuing with the 500ml glass bottles, they will be switching to 3 litre tins for larger quantities. Martin Kirby and Maggie Whitman, who run Mother’s Garden, believe that it is vital to reduce the amount of plastic in the world and this is their contribution to that aim.
Some customers, including myself, would have liked a 2 litre size, as before but this would have meant more tin production and so more cost and Martin felt that they would have had to sustain a 5 litre option as well. However, the new size means that customers will still have options of ordering in quantities of – 3/6/9/12/15 litres etc. and cases of 6x500ml bottles are also available.
Hubs
This excellent extra virgin olive oil can be ordered on line at Mother’s Garden own website or through one of the growing list of “hubs” which have been set up in the UK or you can set up your own hub. A hub is a food-wise group of people; family members, friends, colleagues or nieghbours, who coordinate an order and share one delivery to one address; home or business. Mother’s Garden deal with them direct and every member of the hub receive an invoice. To learn more about hubs email Martin Kirby at Martin Kirby Maggie Whitman <mothersgarden.es@gmail.com>
Bargain prices
The delivery charge is a flat rate, so that two people sharing a delivery will also share the cost. Free delivery is offered for a minimum order of £120+ so if 5 of you order a 3 litre tin each there will be no delivery charge and you will purchase the oil for as little as £9.00 a litre. This is less than what half a litre retails at in the select quality delis and farm shops that stock Mother’s Garden olive oil – so it’s a great bargain.
