I have moved my one day olive oil tasting and appreciation classes to Brighton from this month. I am very grateful to Charles Carey of The Olive Oil Merchant for the use of his lovely showroom for so many years but the time has now come to run them from my home in Brighton.
The first definite date will be Wednesday 3rd November 2021 with further courses later in the month. Please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in attending. Do also let me know if you have any specific dates in mind for later in the year and I can follow up with everyone on my list of interested people.
I keep the classes small so that everyone can join in, numbers may vary from four to seven. The classes start at 10.00am and finish around 4.30pm. The fee for the class, which includes a light lunch and 10-12 oils from around the olive oil world, is £200.00 (No VAT).
The classes cover the following topics but there is provision for specific topics to be included on request in avance.
- What is olive oil
- Standards for extra virgin olive oil
- How to taste
- Why taste and what to look for
- Faulty oils and how to recognise them
- Describing olive oils
- Concept of style in olive oil
- Specific flavour characteristics
- Origins, designations and labelling
- Importance of varieties, fultivation and harvest time
- How olive oil is made
- Olive oil in the shop and the home
- Cooking with olive oil
You may also like to consider gathering a group of friends for one of the classes. If I am offered a readymade group I can offer a 20% discount on individual fees.
