In reply to those of you who are interested in experiencing the tastes and flavours of olive oil in more depth here are details of a number of tasting classes and courses being held in various European countries before the end of the year.  Contact the organisers for full details.

Savantes Dublin Master Class   Euro 150

Friday 29th and Saturday 30th September

Simon Field of founder of Savantes International will be running this one and a half day course with Karen Cryan at Fumbally Stables, Fumbally Lane, Dublin.  As well as looking in depth at the styles and specific flavour characteristics of various oils from aroud the world the course will also include the Savantes tasting test.

International Master Course Lake Garda

Date Sunday 29th to Tuesday 31st October

Maria Paola Gabusi of Olive&Italy will be running a three day course tasting some of the best oils in the world and looking at how processing can affect quality, taste and flavour, how defects occur and how a panel works.  There will also be a visit to a local mill.

The Olive Oil Workshop, Seville, workshops and market tours

Alexis Kerner is offering short two hour workshops in either Spanish or English covering the process of olive oil production, basic attributes and defects, in depth tasting of three oils and a look at nutrition and cooking with olive oil.  She also organises longer events taking in a market tour and/or a mill tour.  Dates depend on demand but are possible every day except Sunday.
